The parliament discussed the petition of the prosecutor general to cancel MP Vartan Oskanyan’s parliamentarian mandate. The situation was like the authorities were focusing on the law, and the PA and their supporters were focusing on political aspects behind the case. Vartan Oskanyan announced that the case was connected with the presidential election and was against the PA. PA MPs did their best to protect their teammate. Some people were honest in their words, others did not seem to be so, but as a political power the PA seems to give up on its teammate.
Vartan Oskanyan’s teammates said in their speech that there were political reasons behind the criminal case against Vartan Oskanyan and the case was a political intimidation on Oskanyan. Before the session in the parliament there was a demonstration near the parliament to protect Vartan Oskanyan. In total there were several hundred people there, who represented his Civilitas and Civilinet organizations, as well as his political team. The PA had so few people in case they claim that they have over 400,000 members, during the last election received 500,000 votes and the crowd during their last rally went down the building to Matenadaran along to Nairi cinema house. In fact the PA did not provide participation of at least 0,1 per cent of their electorate.
However, it is understandable because in such important situation, when a team member is being harassed, the leader of their party Gagik Tsarukyan was missing from the country. Also, maybe by getting rid of Oskanyan from the political party the PA may get rid of Robert Kocharyan’s influence too. In other words, this political party’s leader and his friends, who were considered to be nonpartisan before Vartan Oskanyan joined the, can get rid of that complex and feel free again. It is worth mentioning that so far neither Gagik Tsarukyan nor Robert Kocharyan have come up with a public announcement about Oskanyan’s crisis. If there are reasons to understand Gagik Tsarukyan’s silence, there is no reason behind the silence of Robert Kocharyan about the harassment of his teammate.
