Sirusho: There is too much in my soul to be said, and as always I’ll do it through my songs

168’s exclusive Interview with Sirusho

 – Recently during the presentation of the song “lost melody” you said that now many songs sound like they have lost their melodies and qualities. Do you mean the Armenian songs only?

– It is about both Armenian music and other counties. Generally in the world there is a tendency that there is no melody and soul in songs.

– What is the reason?

– Maybe the reason is time and the rhythm of life; developed technical science. I believe development of science of technical facilities is good but it is taking us far from nature and our feelings. It is everywhere, including science as well.

– Recently you wrote a song with Avet Barseghyan, which is performed by the Russian singer Grigori Leps. Are you planning to cooperate with Russian or other foreign stars?

– There are moments that become links connecting one part of a human’s life to the other. For me as a singer and composer it was one of those links. There are works that are still in process. We have agreements and offers from other artists from Russia.

– Besides writing songs for foreigners you have had several concerts abroad recently. However, you are not that active in Armenia.

– There were many invitations from other countries and I participated in several events to represent Armenia, which was very important for me. Having a concert in Armenia is something that I really want. Since 14 I have had concerts in many places in the world and having concerts somewhere is not for proving that I exist. If in case of those countries where I was invited I did not take care of the organizational issues, in Armenia I want to do it myself to make it consistent with my imaginations.  Now I am very scrupulous to my concerts and take care of all preparations – starting from lights and ending up with dresses. However, in consideration of our reality that we have today it’s not always that I am able to do what I want. One person’s bad work can spoil the entire project. In other words, in order to have a concert I have to be ready both psychologically and physically.

– There is an opinion that one of the main problems in the Armenian show world is the difficult access to the international stage because they do not know Armenian stars. What do you think about this?

– For example, with me there has not been such thing. Of course there are times that you cannot guess if the audience will accept your song or no. It is true about both Armenia and foreign audience. I am very happy that my song was embraced and accepted by people. It was recognized after the Eurovision, but it had continuation, which could not be either. I understand it very well and I appreciate that. Being recognized in the world is a different thing because from my early childhood I could see that very rare people were able to be recognized out of Armenia. Recently I had a concert in Portugal, after which I was giving signatures to my fans for one hour. There were no Armenians among them and it was not the first time happening. It’s a very interesting and pleasant feeling to see that your music is accepted by not only your people but foreigners as well. I wouldn’t say that I am famous in Europe, but one thing I know for sure is that in all those countries I have huge groups of fans who like listening to my songs.

– Do you generally like all what is happening in show business in Armenia now?

– There are many things that I don’t like and make me nervous. However, I would prefer speaking of things that I like. It is easier to complain about things, but I like those people who do their job silently and without complaining.

– Many singers and composers say that they want to make money but it is not easy to make money with high quality songs and music.

– Maybe it’s the easier and shorter way to make money. But I don’t agree with that. I have been making money since my childhood and I have paid for all my videos and works prepared for showing. For me to make money mean to stay loyal to myself and my work – that’s the key to success.

– During the prize award 2012 you were not able to realize most of your plans. Does happen often?

– In such situations these cases happen often. I have already said that I am very scrupulous in my work and I like working with people who appreciate their work and are hard working. I don’t like working with people who are doing things just for doing; I like working with people who are doing that work with pleasure. I clearly see what I want to be like on the stage. Certainly it doesn’t happen for 100% but when we work well we are closer to that. If there are no people that can help us doing that, I wish there will be no one to make obstacles for us either.

– Your last CD was entitled “I believe” and was issued in 2010. Are you planning to issue a new CD?

– Now I am trying to listen, feel and collect those emotions. I don’t know how it will end up. It may end up with a strange song, which people may like or may not like. There are many things in my soul to be said, and as always, I will do it through my songs.

– Famous people have the attention of the society. Don’t you feel uncomfortable because of that?

– I am trying not to compromise to those things. I am very happy when I see that my job has a great feedback, but I am trying not to be dependent on them and I am not doing anything to attract special attention.

– What about gossips?

– Gossips always exist and sometimes those are so strange that those who spread such information should receive a prize for their imagination. Sometimes there are things that are very strange to me and the type of person I am. As we spoke about this, I want to use this chance and thank my fans and those people who are not involved in senseless gossip.

– Don’t you feel insulted or you simply ignore the gossips?

– When I was small, it used to hurt. It may still hurt because when you hear something that is wrong and also against the type of person you are, it hurts something inside. Though I understand that even those people that disseminate such gossips inside themselves do not believe in what they say. It’s just kind of people that cannot do anything but gossip. Having such character is a great misfortune for a person and I don’t know how such people can survive with themselves. When you start realizing this, such illogical rumors sound ridiculous, thus sometimes I laugh at them or even ignore.

– Will you tell me about your future plans?

– Instead of telling I will try to do it.
