Gangster-state leaders
After the May 6 parliamentary elections we have been hearing a lot the question whether it was right for the opposition to have accepted the gifted mandates from the government as a result of rigged elections. As a response the opposition parties and including the Armenian National Congress MPs would say that the acceptance of the mandates was not only right but it would also serve to restore the constitutional order and will conduce to the process of gaining full power in the country.
The regular session of the fifth convocation of the National Assembly kicked off this week. The session discusses the 2011 report of the audit chamber. During these discussions, the oppositionists from the high rostrum of the NA would criticize the corrupt government, would unveil the anti-national face of the government, derided and rebuked the authorities. The latter would humbly listen to this criticism and almost all the news outlets would cover the lofty attacks of the opposition MPs. But what is changed? Nothing! At the end of the discussion the governmental MPs, who party in their party offices, will end up voting for the report. It is not ruled out that the prosecutor’s office will launch a few demonstrative criminal cases based on the released report of the Audit Chamber. And a few statesmen might be arrested. But because of that the system against which the opposition went to parliament, won’t not only weaken but will even more strengthen because the opposition not only legitimizing the illegitimate government in the eyes of the foreign world, but also may pretend for the title of the most democratic parliament in the world.
Try to imagine a European statesman, who’d watch our parliament sessions live, they might assume that in their own countries there is no such freedom of speech as in Armenia. For the government, the creation of such an impression is among European structures is more valuable than the sacrifice of a few domestic corrupt officials for the sake of such “strict” reports of the Audit Chamber.
