Shame on you or national/republican disgrace
Information has been published that the federal court of New York has brought up a verdict obligating MP (from RPA) Vartan Ayvazyan to pay $37,5 million dollars in favor of Global Mining LLC. In the past this case generated a lot of noise and Vartan Ayvazyan faced a scandal as the Global Mining had accused him in asking for several millions in bribe. Without going into the details of the case it is clear that the resolution of the federal court is not so much targeted against Vartan Ayvazyan, but the government of Armenia. Vartan Ayvazyan is not an outsider in this government.
Besides being a part of the ruling party and parliament, he heads the NA standing committee on economic affairs. According to the Americans, he is one of the decision-makers, and this case brought against him is also targeted against the government of Armenia. This is also the answer to the empty words and commitments of Armenia’s government to make reforms.
The incident took place in 2006, however he not only failed to be punished but continued his status and is a key player in the political elite. With this decision the authorities are made to understand that during the elections they endorsed and elected someone in their team of parliamentarians, who is directly accused in large bribe-taking deals. This decision of the court is also targeted against former president Robert Kocharyan (V. Ayvazyan was in office during Kocharyan’s tenure), who has interests and involvement in mining as well. However the first addressee of the court decision is the government, and Vartan Ayvazyan being a part of that government as well.
In fact this decision is demeaning for the Republic of Armenia, its government and ultimately its society as well. Since the publication of information about the decision of the court of New York the teammates of Ayvazyan are either lost or escaping from commenting on the mentioned issue.
What can they say? Should they say that the court of New York has brought up an unfair decision, this is a political order or their parliamentarian friend is corrupt? Or, they may convene another security meeting with the government and give an adequate response, otherwise the least thing Vartan Ayvazyan can do is dropping his mandate.
